Privacy Policy
Stepbreeze ("the App", "we", "us", "our"), operated by Tranquil Mind Technology JSC, respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. By using the App, you agree to this Policy.
Stepbreeze is a step counter and walking tracker: it counts your steps using your device's motion/step sensor, can record the route of a walking session on a map, and lets you set goals, log your weight and schedule reminders. You do not need to create an account to use it — there is no login, no sign-up and no user profile stored on our servers.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Data that stays on your device
The following information is created by you or by the App and is stored only in local storage on your device (Hive / shared preferences). We do not upload it, we cannot read it, and it is removed when you uninstall the App:
- Step counts, daily/weekly step history and goal progress.
- Walking sessions: duration, distance, pace, calories estimate and the route coordinates recorded while a session is active.
- Body profile you choose to enter: height, weight and weight history, gender, date of birth, unit preferences (kg/lb, cm/ft, km/mi).
- App settings: language, theme, reminder times, onboarding state.
1.2 Data collected automatically and sent to our service providers
- Device and app identifiers — e.g. Firebase installation ID, app instance ID, device model, operating-system version, language, country/region, and — where your device makes it available and you have not opted out — the advertising ID (Android Advertising ID / iOS IDFA), which Firebase Analytics may read for analytics only.
- Approximate location derived from your IP address — inferred by our analytics provider at country/region level. We do not send your GPS coordinates to our analytics provider.
- Precise location, only while you record a walking, running or cycling session — the coordinates needed to display the map around you and to look up a place name for the session are sent to Google Maps and Google's geocoding service (see §3). They are not sent to us or used for analytics or advertising.
- App activity and diagnostics — screens opened, in-app actions (for example starting or finishing a walking session), session duration, app open/close events, app version.
- Crash logs and performance diagnostics — stack traces, exception type, device state at the time of a crash, and the identifiers needed to group reports.
1.3 Device permissions we request and why
- Physical activity / activity recognition (Android) and motion & fitness (iOS) — required to read the step-counter sensor and count your steps, including while the App runs in the background as a foreground health service. Step data is processed on your device.
- Precise and approximate location — used only while you are recording a walking session, to draw your route, compute distance and show your position on the map. Location is used in-app while in use; it is stored locally with the session.
- Notifications — to deliver the step/activity reminders you schedule yourself. Reminders are generated locally on your device; we do not operate a push-notification server for marketing.
- Run at startup / exact alarms — to restore step counting and re-arm your local reminders after the device reboots or the App is updated.
We do not request camera, microphone, photo-library, contacts or SMS access, and the App contains no advertising SDK.
2. How we use information
- Provide and operate the App's core functions: counting steps, tracking walking sessions, drawing routes, showing your history and goal progress.
- Convert the coordinates of a session into a readable place name so the session is easier to recognise.
- Deliver the local reminders you configure.
- Understand aggregate, anonymous usage (which features are used, how often the App is opened) so we can improve it.
- Detect, diagnose and fix crashes, errors and performance problems.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not use your information for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not run personalized ads — the App has no ads at all.
3. Third-party services
Only the following third parties receive data from the App.
| Service | Operated by | Purpose | What it receives | Policy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Firebase Analytics | Google LLC | Aggregate product analytics (feature usage, app opens, retention) | App/device identifiers, app-activity events, device & OS info, IP-derived coarse location | https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Google LLC | Crash and stability reporting | Crash stack traces, device model & OS, app version, installation identifier | https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Google Maps SDK for Android/iOS | Google LLC | Render the map and your walking route | Map tile requests, and the coordinates needed to display the requested map area | https://policies.google.com/privacy |
| Google Geocoding (via the geocoding plugin) | Google LLC | Convert session coordinates into a place name | The coordinates submitted for the lookup | https://policies.google.com/privacy |
The App also bundles co.tranquilmind:binding-helper, our own in-house library used to schedule local engagement notifications and to report the same Firebase Analytics events described above. It does not send data to any party other than Google Firebase.
Because the App contains no advertising SDK, there are no ads, no ad personalization and no ad-consent (UMP) flow in the App. Firebase Analytics may read the device's advertising ID, where available, solely to measure aggregate usage; it is not used to show or target ads. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of its use, at any time in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads / Privacy → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking).
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising or targeted advertising. We share data only:
- With the service providers listed in §3, acting on our instructions for the stated purposes;
- When required by law, legal process or a valid government request, or to protect our rights, safety or property;
- In connection with a merger, acquisition or asset transfer, in which case this Policy will continue to apply or you will be notified of any change.
5. Legal bases (EEA/UK — GDPR)
- Legitimate interests — operating and securing the App, fixing crashes, understanding aggregate usage to improve the product.
- Consent — for analytics where local law requires consent, and for the device permissions (activity recognition, location, notifications) which you grant or refuse through the operating system and may withdraw at any time in system settings.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with the law.
6. Data retention
- Data stored on your device is kept until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App.
- Analytics data is retained by Firebase according to the retention period configured for the project (by default up to 14 months for event-level data), after which it is deleted or aggregated.
- Crash reports are retained for a limited diagnostic period (typically up to 90 days for the report detail) and then deleted.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- GDPR / UK GDPR — access, correct, delete, port or restrict your data, object to processing, withdraw consent, and lodge a complaint with your data-protection authority.
- CCPA / CPRA (California) and other U.S. states — know what is collected, request deletion or correction, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing"/targeted advertising. We do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of; you will never be discriminated against for exercising a right.
- Other regions (LGPD in Brazil, PIPEDA in Canada, and similar laws) — equivalent rights of access, correction and deletion.
Much of your data never leaves your device, so the fastest way to delete it is to clear the App's data or uninstall the App. For data held by our providers, email us at the address in §13. Because the App has no accounts, please include your device model, operating-system version, the approximate dates of use and, if you can, your advertising ID (Android: Settings → Google → Ads) so we can locate the relevant records; without identifying details we may be unable to match a request.
8. Children's privacy
The App is intended for users aged 13 and over (or the higher minimum age of digital consent in your country) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the applicable age of consent in the EEA/UK. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it. The App contains no chat, no messaging, no user-to-user content sharing and no social features.
9. International data transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Data security
Data in transit is protected with HTTPS/TLS. On-device data is stored in the App's private storage area, protected by the operating system's app sandbox. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
11. Health disclaimer
Step counts, distance and calorie estimates are produced by consumer sensors and statistical models. They are approximate, are provided for general wellness and motivation only, and are not medical advice, a diagnosis or a medical device. Consult a qualified health professional before starting or changing an exercise programme.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy. Material changes will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
